Dadgum Film School
Youth Film Classes in Longmont, Colorado
Our friends at Dadgum Films not only share a studio with us (324 Main St. in Longmont), we also share a passion to train the next generation of visual storytellers and collaborate on the wonderful Dadgum Film School.
With the revolutions of phones, DSLR cameras, microphones, LED lighting, and video editing software being available at a fraction of the cost of even 5 years ago, it’s increasingly possible for anyone to make videos. We at Dadgum Films believe that in a world where creating videos will be as expected as writing essays - colleges and employers are already increasingly asking for video components on applications - the ability to effectively utilize video making equipment and tell a visually compelling story will be a key to your child’s future success. Our talented team of educators are all dedicated to teaching your child how to best tell their stories through video and equip them with an important skill that will help them the rest of their lives.
single camera filmmaking
Single camera filming has been the standard for Hollywood films since the beginning of their creation, but it is increasingly becoming the standard for creating television programming as well. Over the course of 11 weeks, students learn to do it all, write, act, and produce their own original videos utilizing a single camera.

Specialized single camera filmmaking
If your students is particularly interested in one facet of filmmaking, this is the class for them! Students can select one of three tracks as they work together with a team of teachers and fellow students to create an original web series shot on a single camera.
Writers - Students in our writing track will learn the method of writing for a single camera comedy show. Over the 9 weeks of this class, they will act as staff writers and, under the direction of their teacher and head writer, will create the concept for, and several episodes of, a brand new web series. Students will learn how a real television writer’s room works, learn correct formatting for screenwriting, have the opportunity to be the lead writer on at least one script, as well as provide editing and “punch ups” for their fellow writer’s scripts.
Production - Students in the production track will learn how to operate video making equipment, such as cameras, microphones and studio lighting. Utilizing the scripts written by our writing students, they will each have a chance to direct, be an assistant director, be a camera operator and be an audio technician on an episode of a comedic web series.
Actors - Acting for the camera is quite different than theatrical acting. Whereas the stage requires broader gestures playing to a large audience, students in our acting track will learn how to own the camera by using their voice and body subtly. Utilizing the scripts written by our writing students, our acting students will be assigned a role in a new web series and learn how to hit their marks, give the same performances time after time to make our editor’s job easier, use the camera’s close proximity to convey their character, and work quickly to memorize lines and make adjustments on the fly.
